Hello and welcome to another edition of the KW Boxing Hour. Today, we will be discussing the ongoing buzz surrounding the potential clash between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder, and what the recent comments from key figures in the boxing world tell us about this matchup.
First up, we have Malik Scott, head trainer for Deontay Wilder, who recently reviewed Joshua's performance against Jermaine Franklin last month. Scott said that he felt Joshua had a fair performance, but that he also saw many good things that Joshua did. However, Scott also stated that he believed Joshua was "right in line to be knocked out by Wilder," indicating that he sees some vulnerabilities in the British star's game.
These comments are certainly interesting, especially considering that there has been talk of a potential matchup between Joshua and Wilder in December in Saudi Arabia. Of course, this is not the first time that we have heard about this potential bout - in fact, it has been a topic of conversation for boxing fans for quite some time now.
So, what do we make of Scott's comments? On the one hand, it's clear that he has respect for Joshua's abilities, as he did praise some of the things he saw in his recent fight. However, he also seems to believe that Joshua has some weaknesses that Wilder could exploit.
It's worth noting that this is not a sentiment that is unique to Scott. Many boxing fans and experts have long believed that Joshua's style could be problematic against someone like Wilder, who possesses tremendous power and is known for his devastating right hand. Joshua has been knocked out before - most famously by Andy Ruiz Jr. in 2019 - and there are some who believe that he is vulnerable to getting caught by a big shot.
Of course, Joshua is no slouch himself. He is a skilled and experienced fighter who has proven himself against some of the best in the world. And while he may not be as flashy or dynamic as someone like Wilder, he has shown that he is capable of winning fights in a variety of ways.
But what about the other quote we have from Eddie Hearn, who promotes Joshua? Hearn recently took a trip to the Middle East to hold discussions regarding a possible encounter with Wilder, and he seemed optimistic about the prospects of the fight happening.
Hearn stated that he believes Joshua is ready for all of these fights, including a matchup with Wilder in December. He also mentioned that he thinks Joshua would like to fight before then, which could be an indication that he wants to stay active and continue to build momentum.
It's worth noting that Hearn's comments are not necessarily a surprise - after all, he is Joshua's promoter and it's his job to build hype and generate interest in his fighter. But it is interesting to hear him express such confidence in Joshua's ability to take on Wilder, especially considering the potential risks involved.
So, where does that leave us? At this point, it seems clear that there is a lot of interest in a potential clash between Joshua and Wilder, and that both fighters are open to the idea. But as with any fight in boxing, there are a lot of variables at play, and nothing is guaranteed until the two fighters actually step into the ring.
For now, all we can do is wait and see how things develop. But one thing is for sure - if this fight does happen, it has the potential to be one of the biggest and most exciting matchups in recent memory. So let's keep our fingers crossed and hope that everything falls into place. Until next time, this has been the KW Boxing Hour.
