Hello everyone, and welcome back to the KW Boxing Blog. Today, we’re going to talk about Eddie Hearn’s recent comments about his new signee, Andy Cruz. Hearn, who has made a career out of promoting some of the biggest names in boxing, believes that Cruz can beat anyone in the 135-pound division, including Gervonta Davis. But are these comments just hype, or is there something special about Cruz that makes him a legitimate threat to the established stars of the division?
Let’s start by taking a closer look at Cruz’s credentials. He is a 2020 Olympic gold medalist, which is obviously an impressive feat in any sport. In addition to that, he has a 135-17 record as an amateur, and he’s beaten some of the best fighters in the world in that time. So, on paper at least, Cruz certainly looks like he has the potential to be a star in the professional ranks.
But as we all know, boxing is a different animal than any other sport, and a fighter’s amateur record doesn’t necessarily translate to success in the professional ranks. That’s why it’s important to look at Cruz’s performances since turning pro to see if he really is the real deal.
According to Hearn, Cruz will likely have four or five fights before he fights for a world title. That’s a fairly typical trajectory for a young fighter, and it’s important to note that Hearn isn’t rushing him into the deep end of the pool. However, Hearn also believes that Cruz can beat anyone in the division right now, including Gervonta Davis.
That’s a bold claim, to say the least. Davis is one of the biggest names in boxing right now, and he has a 29-0 record with 27 knockouts. He’s a devastating puncher who has shown that he can handle the big stage, and he’s only 28 years old. It’s hard to imagine a fighter with no professional experience being able to beat him, no matter how talented he is.
But that’s where things get interesting. Hearn isn’t the only one who believes in Cruz. Boxing insiders who have seen him train and spar have been raving about his potential, with some even comparing him to some of the greatest fighters of all time.
One of the most telling quotes comes from a reporter who saw Cruz beat Keyshawn Davis easily. For those who don’t know, Keyshawn Davis is widely considered one of the best young fighters in the world right now, and he’s expected to be a future star in the professional ranks. The fact that Cruz was able to beat him so easily is a clear sign that he has some serious talent.
Another interesting quote comes from Hearn himself, who said that he would put Cruz in the ring with Davis right now. That’s a bold statement, but it’s also a testament to how highly Hearn rates Cruz. He’s not afraid to put his money where his mouth is, and he clearly believes that Cruz has what it takes to beat the best in the world.
So, what does all of this mean for Cruz’s future in the sport? Well, it’s clear that he has the talent to be a star. He’s a gifted fighter with a lot of potential, and he’s already shown that he can hang with some of the best in the world. But at the end of the day, he’s still a young fighter with no professional experience, and it’s going to take some time before we can really see what he’s capable of.
That’s why Hearn’s comments are so interesting. On the one hand, he’s clearly trying to build up Cruz’s reputation and create some buzz around his signing. But on the other hand, he’s also putting Cruz in a position where he needs to live up to some pretty lofty expectations right from the start. It’s a risky move, but one that could pay off in a big way if Cruz manages to deliver.
Regardless of how Cruz’s career unfolds, though, there’s no denying that he’s an exciting prospect with a bright future ahead of him. Whether he ends up living up to the hype or not remains to be seen, but for now, it’s enough to sit back and enjoy the ride.
